DIY write-on picture frame

{We've moved! Visit us at our new and improved blog at: Texas Craft House}

Happy Easter! :)

Tonight I am sharing a craft that I have seen on pinterest and was inspired to make my own. I didn't follow any blog or instructions, as it was easy to figure out how to make this cute write-on picture frame.

Below is a picture of my supplies. I found my frame at Hobby Lobby, and was 50% off. :) I also picked out some scrapbook paper that I would be using on the inside. I chose 3 different papers altogether, you'll see the other two in a minute. The last thing I needed was an expo marker that I picked up at Wal Mart. I chose the skinnier marker since I had a smaller frame and made it easier to write. For an eraser you can just use a tissue, or your finger.

I used the paper insert that was already in the frame to trace a rectangle onto my scrapbook paper. I then cut it out and put the frame back together with the scrapbook paper.

Here is a picture of using the frame to leave a note for my husband. :) We always left notes for each other anyway (he has such a crazy work schedule - mostly works midnight or second shifts). You could do this for other family members or roommates, too.
Here is an example of the second scrapbook paper I chose. I love the different colors on it and matches our decor really well.
In this picture I used the frame as a reminder to myself for in the morning when I might be in a hurry.
Here is the last scrapbook paper I chose.
This is an example of using the write-on frame as upcoming date reminders.
I love this craft because it was very easy, and definitely something I will use. I have a napkin from Vera Bradley that I might put inside the frame, too. :) Elisabeth and I love Vera Bradley. You could change out the scrapbook paper to match the seasons or holidays. You could get different color markers. There is so many different frames to choose from, too. :)

DIY Shadowbox Memory Keeper

{We've moved! Visit us at our new and improved blog at: Texas Craft House}

Happy April Fool's Day!

My mom, sister and I all got together for a craft afternoon. :) Today, I am sharing my sister's craft. A shadowbox memory keeper! :) Talk about easy, inexpensive and so very cute! She was inspired by a frame she saw on Pinterest where tickets from games and concerts were stuck inside to keep and remember.

We went to Michaels and decided that a shadowbox would work easiest with this idea. This way the tickets could pile up and be easily seen through the glass. She found the one below on clearance for 7$. This shadowbox actually opens from the side, which made a convenient little tiny crack at the very top (where the frame and box meet) perfect to slip her tickets inside. She also liked the cream colored fabric background.

Then, she went to the scrapbooking aisle and found a cute sticker that she wanted to put inside. We decided the top "special little memories" would work best. The picture doesn't show it well, but the "memories" is completely glittered in gold. This would help make it stand out.

When we got home she simply opened the shadowbox, opened the stickers, and placed the sticker inside.

Above is the picture of the finished product. Inside she placed stickers from venues, movies, concerts, sports games, etc. Eventually this will fill up to the top (or just below the sticker).

What a great way to display your memories of important events in your life when you were with family, friends, and loved ones. The color of the frame, fabric background, and sticker really made this look great in her home. You could play around with the look of this by getting different colors, changing the background with other fabrics or scrapbook paper, using more stickers or different kinds.

Thanks for following! Stop by for my creativity, soon! :)

DIY Picture Frame with Clip

{We've moved! Visit us at our new and improved blog at: Texas Craft House}

Welcome! :)

Tonight I replicated a craft I saw at local boutique where vendors rent out space to sell their handmade crafts and neat finds. As soon as I saw a photo box with clip I knew I had to make one!

Below is a snapshot of everything I used. A wooden box that I found near the canvas and paint section of Michaels. I also picked out a piece of scrapbook paper, some scrapbook stickers, matching paint and a metal clip (also at Michaels). I also used scissors, a paintbrush, pen, ruler and Mod Podge.

First, I measured out how big I wanted my middle section to be. My wooden box was 8x8 so I drew a 6X6 box in the middle to give me an idea of where my scrapbook paper would go.

Next, I used acrylic brown paint and brushed over the front and sides of the wooden box. I left the middle white to help me line up my scrapbook paper when it came time. :)
While the paint was drying I cut out the scrapbook paper the same size as I drew on the wooden box, 6x6. I choose a 6x6 since most pictures are 4x6's and this way the pictures could be horizontal or vertical when displayed and the cute paper would still be seen.

When the brown paint was dry I used Mod Podge as a glue and sealant and placed it on top. I used my fingers to help get out any air bubbles. You can still see the Mod Podge drying in this next picture.

Then I started placing my scrapbook stickers. When buying the stickers I made sure the scrapbook paper would match. There were LOTS to choose from.

Then I stuck the heart sticker on the clip. I didn't use any glue on the stickers since they game with a sticky back to them.

I used a quick dab of hot glue to place the metal clip at the top of the photo box.

Here is a picture of the finished product without any pictures. I LOVE IT! :)

Here is a picture of the photo box with a picture. I LOVE IT MORE! :) That's my adorable nephew when he was little.

I love this wooden frame because it stands out and looks so personal! The metal clip at the top allows you to change out the pictures at any time. You could do SO many different things with these photo boxes. You can make a family one like I did, or a sports one for a child, a wedding one for a gift, a baby photo box for a shower, the ideas are endless. You could use other embellishments, other than the stickers, that are in the scrapbook section. The one I saw originally had a ribbon bow at the top. I have seen smaller and larger wooden boxes at the craft store. You could make several to go with a theme.

Did you notice my yarn wrapped bottle in the background? :) The instructions are here.

Thank you for stopping by. Feel free to follow us! :) Check back for more creativity soon!

Monogram wine cork corkboard

{We've moved! Visit us add our new and improved blog at: Texas Craft House}

I made this craft for my mom and found the idea on pinterest. I collected wine corks and got several people to collect corks for me as well. All I had to buy was the frame and the gorilla glue. The 'S' was made by the corks standing up and the rest of the board had the corks lying on their side. I started by cutting several corks in half so that I would have an even amount of red tips and plain tips to make an 'S' that would stand out. I created an 'S' in the shape I loved and immediately glued that down in the center of the frame.

Once I glued the 'S' down I began fitting in the corks on their sides like a puzzle. I glued one row at a time and as soon as I pieced together the row I glued.

I realized that even though I had an overwhelming amount of corks I needed even more to finish the project. Make sure you have at least 130 corks just in case you make a mistake.

I used the monogram for my mom's first name, but you can use your last name too!!
